Former Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs is found not guilty of assaulting his private chef

BOSTON (AP) — Former Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs was found not guilty on Tuesday of assaulting his private chef in a pay dispute. The four-time Pro Bowl wideout pleaded not guilty in February to a felony strangulation charge and a misdemeanor assault and battery charge stemming from the alleged dispute. The case centered on a Dec. 2 encounter at Diggs’ home in Dedham, where Jamila Adams, a former live-in personal chef who is known as Mila, testified he slapped and choked her during an argument. Diggs’ attorneys said the alleged assault never happened and questioned Adams’ credibility and whether the dispute was about money, relationship tensions — including a disagreement over a planned trip to Miami — or an alleged   ... Magic fire Jamahl Mosley after 5 seasons as coach, 3 first-round playoff appearances

Jamahl Mosley was fired as coach of the Orlando Magic on Monday, paying the widely expected price after the team blew a 3-1 series lead and got eliminated by the Detroit Pistons in Round 1 of the Eastern Conference playoffs. It was Orlando’s third consecutive first-round playoff exit, and easily the most disappointing. Not only did the eighth-seeded Magic lose all three chances to upset the top-seeded Pistons, but one of those games saw Orlando have a 24-point second-half lead at home and still lose. Orlando missed 23 consecutive shots in that Game 6 loss on Friday, getting booed by fans when it was over. That loss probably was the one that sealed Mosley’s fate, even though the loss in   ... Mavericks hire former Raptors executive Masai Ujiri as president and alternate governor

DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks hired former Toronto Raptors executive Masai Ujiri as team president and alternate governor on Monday, the latest step in moving on from the Luka Doncic trade that ended up being a significant setback for the club. Ujiri was in charge of the Raptors when they acquired Kawhi Leonard from the San Antonio Spurs and won the 2018-19 NBA title in Leonard's only season with Toronto. The 55-year-old Ujiri replaces Nico Harrison, who was fired as general manager in November. That was nine months after Dallas acquired oft-injured center Anthony Davis from the Los Angeles Lakers in the deal for Doncic, a generational star in his prime. A stunning 9-6 Avalanche win over the Wild turns a defense-first series into a 15-goal frenzy

DENVER (AP) — Two of the NHL’s best defenses and a pair of the game’s ironfisted goaltenders are squaring off in Round 2, promising a paucity of pucks flashing the red light in the Minnesota-Colorado series, right? Not in Game 1. A whopping 14 players scored Sunday night, Colorado goalie Scott Wedgewood gave up a half-dozen goals — one more than he allowed in his team’s sweep of the Los Angeles Kings in Round 1 — and yet the Avalanche prevailed 9-6 after Jesper Wallstedt surrendered a career-high eight goals before an empty-netter completed the madness. “It was a weird one,” said Avalanche star Cale Makar, the only player to score multiple goals in the opener of a series that   ...
